The Secretary of State for Rural Development, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, made false statements about the comparative expenditures of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Assurance Scheme (MGNREGS) fund, which filed a motion against the minister to Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, senior Congressional and party leaders and party whip.

Mr. Penmasani told Losabha on Tuesday (25 March 2025), “Tamil Nadu has a population of 7 crore and UP has a population of 2 crore. Nearly 10,000 crore was reported upwards, and Tamil Nadu has withdrawn over 10,000 crore. There is no question of not giving money.”

Hindu News reports pointed out that the government’s own data did not approve of his claims.

The “At a glance” report on the MGNREGS website shows that the total expenditure for the ongoing fiscal year in Uttar Pradesh is Rs 118,600 crore, while the total expenditure for Tamil Nadu is Rs 108,670 crore. So far this year, the centre has released Rs 97,580 crore to Uttar Pradesh and Rs 7,414 crore to Tamil Nadu. The MGNREGA Foundation’s payments are not based on the state’s population, but are based solely on the job needs raised by the state.

In a letter to Lok Sabha spokesman Om Birla, Mr Tagore pointed out that the differences said: “The State Secretary for Rural Development is misleading and in fact incorrect, leading to important issues related to the allocation and expenditure of MGNREGS funds, which lead to misleading and misleading the housing.” Mr Tagore urged the Speaker to direct the Minister to provide clarification on the issue.

“Given the importance of maintaining the integrity of the House statements and the importance of the impact of false information on public discourse, I requested a motion for privilege against Mr. Penmasani because he misled the House and caused confusion on MGNREGS’ funding,” Tagore said.
