What is Digital Rape: Digital Rape: What is the shocking crime just happened in the ICU of Medanta Hospital?

According to PTI, the defendants were allegedly legally defined as “digital rape” in the ICU room, while two nurses were present but did not intervene.
What is digital rape?
According to the PTI report, it was reported that the attack in a digital rape case was carried out in an ICU room, while two nurses were present but did not intervene. The term “digital rape” refers to the non-consensual penetration of a person’s personal parts using a finger or toe. In this case, the word “number” refers to a number that refers to a hand or foot, not a technology.
Unlike forms of sexual assault involving external contact, digital rape involves internal, involuntary penetration, and usually uses fingers or toes. This makes it a deeply invasive and serious act of sexual violence. Such attacks can occur in a variety of settings, including hospitals, private houses, public places, and even in police custody. Trauma caused by digital rape usually includes physical harm and lasting emotional and psychological effects. This trauma may become more acute when the victim loses consciousness, calms, has a body restricted or is under intensive medical services, just like the Medanta Hospital.
Although digital rape volumes are still often underestimated, they are increasingly recognized by medical professionals and human rights groups around the world because it seriously violates physical integrity and personal dignity.
Another case that clarifies the law
In another 2021 case, a Delhi court was sentenced to 25 years in strict jail for serious sexual assault on a two-year-old girl. The court ruled that it should not be generous and spacious just because the case involves digital penetration rather than penis and vaginal rape. The ruling was made by the Additional Conference Judge Babita Puniya, who handled protection against children from sexual offences (POCSO) cases. She rejected the defense attorney’s argument that digital infiltration should be considered a less serious crime. “I disagree. The Legislature did not make any difference between digital penetration and penis penetration. According to the rape law, penetration can be penis/vaginal, vagina/oral, penis, penis/anal, object, finger/vaginal/vaginal/finger/finger/anal penetration, so I don’t think this is a lawsuit in the lawsuit. Including the age of the offender, the identity of the first-time offender, illiterate, and suspected poisoning at the time of the crime. These are not considered valid reasons to reduce punishment.
The man was on January 17, 2025 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act (intensifying penetrating sexual assault), as well as Section 342 of the IPC (unlawful detention) and 376-AB (rape by women under 12 years of age).
Medta is charged and arrested
The defendant in the Medanta case was identified as Deepak, 25, a native of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, who lives in Gurugram. Deepak joined the Medanta Hospital five months ago after receiving a bachelor’s degree in surgical theater technology from a private university in the area.
According to police, Deepak was arrested after an extensive investigation by a special investigation team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Arpit Jain (Headquarters). “More than 50 employees and some doctors at the hospital were questioned and checked the video of 800 CCTV cameras. After multiple analysis, we finally identified the defendant and arrested him today. He has pleaded guilty to the crime.”
The investigation began when the 46-year-old flight attendant filed a complaint on April 14. Police said the defendant will be held in court on Saturday and the investigation is still underway.
