Lashkar-e-toiba or Let the established new terror costumes, resistance lines or TRFs to cover up Pakistan’s participation after international pressure.
Before resistance (TRF)
The Resistance Front (TRF) claims responsibility for the outrageous terrorist attacks of Baisaran, the grassland of Pahalgam, a popular and must-see tourist destination in Jamu and Kashmir. 26 people, including the local “pony”, were killed in the attack in the Anatnag area. The death toll may increase, as many people were seriously injured in the attack. Likewise, it claims to be responsible for attacks on Kashmir Hindus, migrant workers, local politicians and tourists.
What is TRF?
The Resistance Front, or TRF, is considered a terror costume initiated by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba in 2019, after Article 370 was repealed, revoking the special identity granted to the state. The article was signed by Jamu and Kashmir ruler Raja Hari Singh, and in 1948, the state became an integral part of India.
Lashkar-e-toiba or Let The set up new terrorist costumes to cover up the participation of terrorist activities in Pakistan after international pressure. This is also the time when Islamabad belongs to the Financial Action Working Group (FATF) scanners to fund and finance terrorist activities. Founded in 1989, the FATF aims to fight money laundering, drug dealing and terrorist funds, putting Pakistan on the gray list. If it were downgraded to the blacklist, the country could have been banned by all countries and there was no multilateral loan or any form of financial aid to be provided to the Islamic state.
Why trf?
Analysts believe that the name TRF was chosen and therefore cannot be associated with Pakistan or terrorism, it does not have Islamic meanings like “Lashkar”, “Toiba” or “Mujahideen”. However, all its cadres are from Lashkar and Hizbul Mujahideen. Second, it focuses on recruiting local youth so that Pakistan’s participation can be hidden, and Islamabad can easily deny its role.
TRF’s Pakistani contact
However, TRF terrorists are directly associated with LET. They were trained in Pakistan and they received weapons and intelligence input from Inter Service Intelligence or ISI, an intelligence outfit for the Pakistani army. TRF continues to receive logistical support, training and strategic guidance from the agency.
Earlier TRF attacks
TRF made headlines and made its debut on April 1, 2020, when it held a four-day gunfight near the Line of Control (LOC) of the Keran industry in Kupwara. During the gun battle, five Indian Para Commando and five TRF militants were killed.
It was found to be involved in numerous events such as the 2020 Keran encounter, Handwara encounter 2020, the 2021 attack on Sopore’s BJP MP, Sedow Shopian IED launched an attack in 2022, Anantnag encountered in 2023, Reasi attacks and Pahalgam attacks in 2024.
Under the Illegal Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the alliance government banned terrorist clothing in January 2023.
