Who is former RAW Chief Alok Joshi, who is now appointed head of the NSA board of directors after the Pahalgam terrorist attack?

Alok Joshi will lead a seven-member board of directors, including retired senior officials from India’s military, police and foreign services.

A few days after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the coalition government rebuilt the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB). Alok Joshi, former head of the Research and Analysis Division (RAW), was appointed head of the NSAB. The decision comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting on Wednesday after a Cabinet Security Committee (CCS) meeting held at his residence in New Delhi. The NSA board of directors also selected six members.

The other six members include former Western Air Marshal Prime Minister Sinha, former Mainland Commander Lieutenant General Ak Singh and rear Admiral Monty Khanna, both retired officers. Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh are two retired members of the Indian Police Service (IPS). B Venkatesh Varma is a retired IFS official of seven people.

Who is Alok Joshi?

Alok Joshi is the former head of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Now, he has been appointed head of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB). He is from Lucknow and graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) with a postgraduate degree in political science. According to reports, Joshi joined the Indian Police Station (IPS) in 1976, a Haryana cadre. He was promoted and later became co-director of the Intelligence Agency (IB) in 2005. In 2010, he was appointed Special Secretary to R&AW. He took over as original secretary in 2012.

What is the National Security Advisory Board?

It is a multidisciplinary institution, including outstanding figures in external government. Its main function is to provide long-term analysis to the National Security Council and recommend solutions and policy options for the problems it raises.

At the CCS meeting, the Prime Minister’s residence convened two other committee meetings – the Cabinet Political Affairs Committee (CCPA) and the Cabinet Economic Affairs Committee (CCEA). The CCS last met on April 23 and detailed the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, in which 25 Indians and a Nepali citizen were killed. Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi presided over a meeting of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Defense Minister Anil Chauhan and three service directors.

Sources said Prime Minister Modi expressed full confidence and confidence in the professional capabilities of the Indian armed forces. Prime Minister Modi said the Indian armed forces have complete operational freedom to determine the mode, goal and timing of India’s response.
