Teenagers die of overdose in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:A 17-year-old intermediate student from Balabur died on Saturday in Balabur due to suspected medical overdose, while two of his friends were hospitalized.

Police arrested two people, Sahil, 22, and Sravan, owner of the Srinivasa Medical Store, which supplies the medicine. They are booked under the BNS and the Juvenile Justice Act.

The victim’s cousin told Deccan Chronicle: “On April 17, he went to meet his friend. When he came back, he started vomiting. Later, he complained about headaches and vomited more. When asked, he admitted to injecting the medication.”

His mother took him to a private hospital, and he was later transferred to Ottomania hospital where doctors placed him in ventilation. The cousin said that despite their great efforts, he died.

All names are detained to avoid identifying minors.

After learning of his son’s critical situation, the student’s father returned from Dubai. His uncle accuses a Sahil of seducing students into addiction.

He asked: “The authorities must act on those who sell prescription drugs casually. How Sahil enters the local community and starts providing medications that students can easily access and consume.”

Police said the student and his friend dissolved the painkiller tablets in saline and injected the solution faster using a syringe. The doctor conducted an autopsy, but no short comments have been made. Viscera samples were collected to determine the exact cause of death. The other two students who received treatment were reported to be in stable condition.

Sources show that students are addicted to drugs. “When they were unable to get the usual substances, they turned it to painkillers. To enhance the effect, they increased the dose. After experiencing vomiting, the other two were also taken to the hospital by their parents,” the source said.

Police said Sahil, 22, was the main defendant. “He targeted local youth and convinced them that the injection of painkillers dissolved in saline would create a drowsy height. Initially, he provided free doses to make the boy addicted. Once he relied on them, he started charging them for the fee.”
