BJP, allies push for WAQF bill, opposition continues even with Muslim protests

New Delhi: Despite widespread protests by the opposition and some Muslim groups on the WAQF Act (Amendment), the BJP and its allies are still advocating the protest, including the state of the polls held in Bihar. BJP Gambit – Play the benefits of the revised WAQF bill for Pasmanda and poor Muslims.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead the BJP for polls in Bihar during a possible visit to Madhubani on April 24. One of the main reasons behind the BJP-led NDA is support for the revised legislation in Bihar, which is that nearly 17% of the Muslim population in Bihar, with more than 70% belonging to Pasmanda Muslims, a sector that the NDA actively attracts this segment and has claimed that this segment will benefit from the WAQF Act.
Even JD(U) isn’t very worried as it’s also focusing on Pasmanda voting banks, especially after the newly revised legislation. In the last rally poll in 2020, JD(U) hired more than a dozen Muslim candidates, but none won. The Nitish-led party received about 3.5% of the Muslim vote, which was also obtained from seats with a considerable Pasmada population.
Pasmadas is considered a marginalized part of the Muslim community.
The BJP is conducting its campaign to highlight the national amended laws, including several Muslim organizations that include Akshir Balatia Pasmada Muslims and Muslims.
Saffron cadres were asked to redouble their efforts in Bihar’s efforts, especially in contact with Pasmada Muslims in polls. Feedback from the states of the poll reached the saffron poll manager, which also indicated that the law would not have any negative impact, the source said.
Muslims are considered to be the voting bank of RJD led by Lalu Prasad Yadav. BJP strategists are now awaiting Mr. Modi’s visit as the prime minister is expected to raise the pitching of the amended bill, which they believe will further help the ruling NDA. The Prime Minister is likely to speak at public gatherings and attend Panchayati Raj Day event, and he is expected to interact with Panchayati Raj representatives from 10 regions. The Prime Minister may also meet with NDA leaders during his visit to the state.
