Why install surveillance cameras when they are useless: Justice T. Vinod Kumar

Justice T. Vinod Kumar of the High Court of Telangana asked Tuesday what the focus of surveillance cameras is if it doesn’t help the investigators.

Hearing a written petition filed by a citizen who disappeared about a year ago, Raidurg police were unable to track him, the judge noted that CCTV cameras appeared only for record-breaking purposes. Attorneys for petitioner Polavarapu Raju told HC that his client’s son disappeared a year ago, but police could not ensure any details about the boy’s disappearance.

Government lawyers informed the court that notices had been issued to all police stations regarding the whereabouts of missing persons. He said that after ensuring all details, a report will be submitted on the matter. He added that the camera footage could not raise important potential clients in the case.

The judge tried to know what it means to install cameras when they are useless and why it costs a lot of public funds. The hearing will be adjourned until April 29.
