Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who served for the fifth consecutive term on Sunday (May 4, 2025), claimed that he would “stay in the NDA” thanks to the competitiveness of the BJP.

Mr. Kumar, the supreme JD (U) reiterated this position when talking about the inaugural ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games, with thousands of young athletes from all over the country participating.
CM, who has changed the partner many times over the past decade, said: “I will stay here forever. My party made me go here earlier. But this won't happen again. It won't happen again.”

It is worth noting that Mr. Kumar has been an ally of the BJP since the mid-1990s, but he split up his ways in 2013 after he was dissatisfied with his then Gujarat counterpart, Narendra Modi, in 2013, earning national popularity.
A year later, despite his party being swallowed up in Lok Sabha polls and Mr. Modi became prime minister, Mr. Kumar successfully held his own position thanks to a brief alliance with Arch Rival rival Lalu Prasad, President RJD, who abandoned him in 2017 and returned to the NDA.

The alliance lasted until 2022, when Mr. Kumar joined hands with RJD-led Mahagathbandhan to vow to defeat the BJP, accusing former allies of trying to separate JD (U).
But before last year's Lok Sabha poll, Septuagenarian returned to the NDA, abandoning the Indian group he brought together by bringing parties against the BJP.
