It is reported that the United States has begun to manufacture gravity bombs that are 24 times stronger than the “Little Boy”. On August 6, 1945, the nuclear bomb fell on Hiroshima, Japan. Gravity bombs, or B61-13 gravity bombs, will play a key role in strengthening U.S. nuclear testing, intensifying amid global security challenges. It has emerged due to the “emergency” and “critical” threats of rising global tensions, according to the New York Post. It is also known as a guideless bomb, and it has no guidance system and can only fall from an aircraft by relying on gravity. This is what shocked the global markets in the tariff war of US President Donald Trump and could trigger a major shift in the world order.

The report shows that the B61-13 is designed with a 360 kiloton payload. In 1945, the “Little Boy” fell on Hiroshima, with only 150 million. Initially, a bomb plan was formulated in 2023 after Russia invaded Ukraine. There are concerns that war could trigger European-wide conflict. As a NATO member, the United States is committed to defending its European allies under Article 5 of the NATO Treaty and ensuring a collective defense in the event of armed attacks.

The National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) in 2023 has a mission of $92 million to build a new nuclear gravity bomb called B61-13. Gravity bombs should be produced in 2026. But fears of escalating conflicts with Russia, China and Iran, the United States has reportedly started producing gravity bombs before the timeline. The plan is now seven months ahead of the initial expected seven months of its first production unit. B61-13 follows the B61-12 Life Extension Plan (LEP), which was completed in December 2023 with an estimated cost of $9 billion.
