Woman tied to a tree and received praise for stealing fish in Udupi

Udupi: A woman accused of stealing fish was tied to a tree and beaten by a group of people in a shocking incident at the Marpe fishing port on Wednesday. This video is all the rage on social media.

Police have conducted cases under various parts of the BNS and the Atrocities Act. Three people have been arrested, one of them has been detained for the incident.

The woman, who was allegedly a resident of the Vijayanagara area, allegedly stole expensive fish from the boat that unloaded the fish from the port. When face-to-face, she was said to have denied the theft, leading to a heated debate. The argument quickly caused the crew to tie the woman to a tree and slap her.

The woman belonged to the Lambani (Banjara) community and was accused of stealing about 20 kilograms of prawns worth about Rs 8,000, according to sources.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Vidyakumari responded to the attack, condemned the bill and criticized the bystanders for laughing rather than intervening. She urged authorities to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
