3 hidden iPhone settings to protect you from threats
If you use an iPhone, you already have powerful security built in. But did you know that some extra features can be turned on to make your iPhone safer? These settings are especially useful if your phone is stolen or if someone tries to crack your account. Whether you’re the latest iPhone or an older iPhone, there are three important security options you should enable today.
1. Turn on two-factor authentication for Apple ID
This is one of the most important safety steps. Two-factor authentication (2FA) means that even if someone knows your password, they can’t log in to your Apple ID unless they also have special codes sent to your trusted device. It adds a second layer of protection.
Check if it is turned on:
Go to Settings > at the top > Password and Security Click your name > Make sure two-factor authentication is turned on.
2. Enable protection of stolen devices
This new feature is great if your iPhone is lost or stolen. It makes it harder for someone to change your Apple ID password or turn off Find my iPhone, something thieves often try to do. It also blocks access to the saved password unless you verify your face ID or touch ID. If you are not in a familiar location (such as at home), some settings will lock for an hour so you have time to take action.
Open it:
Go to Settings > FACE ID and Password > Enter Password > Scroll down and turn on stolen device protection.
3. Use a private relay (iCloud+ function)
Private relays keep private browsing when using Safari. It hides your IP address and encrypts your Internet traffic, so no one (even Apple) can see who you are, and the website you visit. This prevents website and network providers from tracking your location or creating profiles based on your Internet activity.
Enable it:
Go to Settings > On Top > iCloud > Turn on Private Relay. (Note: You need an iCloud+ subscription to use this feature.)
