The Supreme Court (7 April 2025) filed a petition in the Supreme Court accusing Maharashtra Navierman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray of hate speech and inciting violence against Indian North Indian communities.

The plea filed by Sunil Shukla, who introduced himself as the national president of Uttar Bhartiya Vikas Sena, and represented by advocate Sriram Parakkat, said the Maharashtra government and the police did not respond to his repeated requests to register criminal cases against MNS cadre who had in the past resorted to violence, threats to life and harassment against him.

Mr Shukra said his advocacy for the rights of North Indians has made him the target of threats, harassment and physical intimidation by the MNS and its affiliated groups.

He proposed that on March 30, Mr Thackeray gave an incitement speech to incite violence against North Indians because he spoke Hindi. The petition says the speech has been aired and violently attacked Hindi-speaking employees at several locations in Mumbai, including Powai and D-Mart in Versova.

“Before such a speech, the petitioner was also under serious threats, including publicly publicly ruthless messages of inciting his murder on Twitter and having more than 100 anonymous calls threatened his life. On October 6, 2024, a group of about 30 people with MN were affiliated with MNS, who tried to rob the petitioner’s political party committee committee committee committee committee committee committee committee committee committee committee, but the general committee of the committee was the general committee of the general committee. The petition said that the police and the Indian Election Commission were not registered,” the petition said.
