Madras HC expands temporary advance payment awarded to comedian Kunal Kamra

Chennai: The Madras High Court extended Monday until April 17 with interim expected bail to comedian Kunal Kamra, who arrested the arrest related to his supervisor of comedy in Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Judge Sunder Mohan also directed petitioner Kamra to take steps to approach the courts concerned.
When the case was heard on Monday, the petitioner’s lawyer V Suresh proposed that three more FIRs were registered among the petitioners in Maharashtra.
Hostility towards the petitioners continued as authorities visited his parents’ house in Mumbai and disturbed his elderly parents. Suresh added that people attending his event were also called by police.
The judge posted on April 17 to further hear the case.
The 36-year-old stand-up comic made two calls to Mumbai police during his recent show in Mumbai, which put him in trouble and triggered a row.
The controversy stems from the Kamra performance of the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, Mumbai, where he performed parody songs against Shinde. The bill has sparked strong opposition from supporters of Shiv Sena, who undermined the club and its hotel.
Kamra was booked by Khar Police, and allegedly Shiv Sena Mla Murji Patel’s complaint allegedly made defamatory remarks against CM Deputy Prime Minister.
Kamra filed an early relocation of HC, who filed his move to Tamil Nadu from Mumbai in 2021 and was “usually a resident of the state” and he was worried that the Mumbai police had arrested him.
