Chidiya’s trailer is a poetic drama about dreams, community and childhood – now it has appeared.
Written and directed by Mehran Amrohi, Chidiya tells the story of Shanu and Bua, two brothers grew up in a narrow Mumbai Chawl, whose dreams are much bigger than their surroundings. When they decided to turn the abandoned dumping ground into a badminton court, their little ideas brought the entire community together – a journey full of pranks, hopes and quiet victory.
Chidiya features Vinay Pathak, Amruta Subhash, Inaamulhaq and child actors Svar Kamble and Ayush Pathak. The music for the film is written by Shailendra Barve and it will be released by Reliance Entertainment.
Director Mehran Amrohi shared: “Chidiya is a love letter to childhood resilience. It’s about finding joy in scarcity and how children’s imaginations turn the smallest space into their own world. Shanuand Bua’s dream is simple – but it’s everything.”
Faqhrul Husaini, producer of Smiley Movie, added: “From the beginning, we knew Chidiya was special. It wasn’t loud or flashy, but it celebrated something very precious – the quiet power of the community, and the small victory that sets life apart.”
Vinay Pathak said: “The beauty of Chidiya is in its simplicity. Sometimes the most powerful stories come from the smallest, most honest moments. That’s why this movie is with you.”
Amruta Subhash reflects: “Chidiya is about dreaming big in a narrow lane. For me, it’s about being completely there – no skill, no acting skills. Just the truth. In this movie, even silence speaks.”
Chidiya won a global premiere at the famous Zlín International Film Festival, the world’s largest children’s film festival, where it embarked on a journey of global touch. Since then, the film has won awards for Best Film and Best Director, and has been selected on famous platforms such as South Asia IFF (New York), Cinekid Screening Club (Amsterdam).
Because sometimes, hope to grow in the most unexpected places.
Chidiya will be released in Selected Cinemas on May 30, 2025.
