P. Prasad’s Minister of Agriculture said people’s awareness of healthy eating habits is becoming increasingly obvious.
He added that according to the study, more than 56% of the disease is caused by food habits, and people in the state should be more aware of the problem.
The minister spoke at the inauguration of a Xiaomi cafe near Kakkanad, part of the government’s efforts to promote the inclusion of Xiaomi in the daily diet to help address diseases such as diabetes.
Each district in the state has been assigned a Xiaomi cafe and has government support, while the Ernakulam unit was unveiled on Saturday (May 10, 2025) as part of the restaurant chain. The cafe is run by a group of farmers engaged in value-added.
Mr Prasad said the range of small and medium-sized products is needed to improve its acceptability in public restaurants. He added: “The recent visit by the state delegation to the National Xiaomi Institute of Hyderabad is a demonstration and an eye-opener of a variety of products that can be developed from Xiaomi.”
Radhamani Pillai, Thrikkakara Municipal Chairman, who presided over the inauguration, said Millet Café will help promote healthy eating habits among the public. Pacheat Regional President Manoj Muthedan and Greater Cochin Development Authority Chairman K. Chandran Pillai were present.
The minister said efforts are being made to expand farming in areas such as Attappady, such as Palakkad. He added that in addition to government support, local agencies, cooperatives and Xiaomi Cafes opened by organizations like Kudumbashree groups, they are encouraged to launch Xiaomi-based food channels.
