Murshidabad Violence: Governor says discussion with CM, center monitors situation

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose said on Sunday (13 April 2025) that he is having regular discussions with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while the center is working to monitor the situation in the violently attacked Mehdabad area.
Mr. Boss said in a video message that a sufficient number of central forces had been deployed and, together with them, state police actively provided timely assistance and support at the scene.
At least three people were killed, several injured and many stores were burned after protests against the WAQF (Amendment) bill in Suti and Samserganj Blocks in the Murhidabad region. Many people have also fled the areas since the violence began on Friday.

“Let me tell the wrongdoing, it will be our pointless attitude towards violence and criminals, and no one can take the law into their hands,” the governor said.
He also said in Bengali:Sangharsh, Himsa Habe Na Cholbe Na” (There should be no conflict or violence).
Advocate that Raj Bhavan is monitoring the situation in Murshidabad and other areas where violence is subject to violence, the governor said that discussions are being held between the governor and the CM.
The center is working to monitor the situation and collect opinions from reliable sources from authorities, including the BSF and the police.
“The government has deployed a sufficient number of central forces due to nine BSF companies there. The CRPF and RAF are ready, and the state police are active on the scene with the central forces to seek any timely help and support,” he said.
Several cars, including police cars, were set on fire, shops and houses were destroyed, and stones were thrown at security forces, violently attacking the area on Friday and roads were blocked.
The prohibition order under Article 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in areas where violent attacks have been hit and the internet has been suspended.
