Film producers Mahesh Bhatt and Parveen Babi were in a romantic relationship when they married Kiran Bhatt. In a recent interview, Bart shared details about their relationship and revealed that their mental health had broken down after deteriorating. The director even revealed that Babi was once married, but her husband moved to Pakistan and never came back.
Mahesh Bhatt said in a conversation with BBC News Hindi: “I know later when we were already in a relationship. When her mother visited from Junagadh, she sometimes discussed this issue because by then we had a relationship. I lived with her. So I was married once and then married to Pakistan.” The director added that many years later, when he visited Pakistan, Pavin’s husband wanted to see him, but the meeting could not be held. “Many years later, in 2003, I visited Pakistan for the film festival. There, I was told that someone wanted to see you, but I couldn’t meet. I never said I didn’t want to see him, but it wasn’t working out in some way. I was wondering why he wanted to meet me? I never had one person shut my door to anyone.”
Speaking about why his relationship with the actress ended, Bart said she had “mood disorder” and that he “tryed a lot to help her” but her illness led to a tragic ending for their operations. I saw her going through her collapse. I went through it with her. When you see someone breaking up in front of you…I see her leaving her makeup in the morning, but when I come back in the evening, she trembles and sits in the corner like an animal. She kept saying “Someone will kill me.” She suffers from schizophrenia.
