Heat waves cause AP’s power system to overload and frequent power misfortunes

Vijayawada: Rising temperatures in several areas of Andhra Pradesh are causing fires. Last month, 2,270 fire calls were received, compared with 2,186 in March last year.
Electric short circuit is one of the main reasons for electric short circuits in industrial and commercial buildings. The use of air conditioners, refrigeration facilities and other electric equipment for a long period of time for various purposes is the main reason.
The wires are heated, causing sparks and fires. Officials say the bites on the wires are not covered by thermal insulation, which also led to the misfortune of the fire.
The fire department has noticed the chimney in the hotel kitchen, causing the fire to be unfortunate. The chimneys suck cooking oil, which is deposited and not cleaned for a long time. Any spark will cause the chimney to catch fire and burn down the deposited oil.
This can happen even in the houses and kittens of apartments in multi-storey apartments.
It was also noted that due to the charging of electric vehicles – both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, there will be fire accidents. Since the house/apartment is equipped with three to five kV of capacity power and the charging time is prolonged, the power load of the transformer will rise. Officials say that if the wires and MCP (electric circuit protectors) do not have the quality of the standard quality, then this will cause electric short circuits and bursts in transformers or houses or apartments.
Because false ceilings, especially in apartments in apartments, have become common, sparks from any source can cause fire. Setting up materials used in false ceilings can cause fire and spread.
The chimneys are mainly in hotels and restaurants, functional halls and places where large-scale preparations are carried out in other places and must be cleaned regularly. For a period of time, thick oil deposits there to catch fire.
Recently, a fire broke out at a city restaurant here. The chimney caused the fire from some source. Fortunately, there were only eight to nine customers at the time, all of which escaped.
Comparing the number of fires, property losses and human/animal losses, the number of fire calls increased to 14,434 in the corresponding period of the previous year. However, in 2024-25, property losses for humans/animals and loss of humans fell to 19.885 million and 482, respectively, compared with property/animals losses of 40.226 billion and 486 in the previous year.
“As the number of fire calls is increasing, especially in the summer, we call on people to conduct proper inspections of wires, transformers, chimneys and other electrical equipment in order to use quality materials and ensure safeguards, and continue to check the power load to avoid firefighting Mishaps.”
