Young sting female college student trying to end life in Salem

A young man reportedly stabbed a third-year college student at an old bus booth in Salem City and tried to end his life on Wednesday (April 16, 2025).
Police said Mohanpriyan, 19, attacked Surya, 20, a botany student at the 20-year-old Botany Women’s Arts College, causing serious injuries with a knife, police said. He then tried to commit suicide and was injured.
Passersby drove both of them to the government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital, who are currently receiving intensive treatment.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the woman was a Minnampalli native of Vazhapadi Taluk and met Mohanpriyan from Attayampatti about three months ago via Instagram. Mohanpriyan completed a course a year ago at the Institute of Industrial Training (ITI) in Gorimedu, but was unemployed.
Police said the two were reportedly in a romantic relationship, but the woman’s family recently arranged for her marriage to relatives.
Mohanpriyan was angry at this and he met the woman talking at the bus stand. Police said the debate broke out, during which he pulled out a knife and stabbed her.
Salem Township police are investigating the case.
