YouTube announced on Monday the appointment of Gunjan Soni as India’s national managing director. Soni successfully served in Zalora, Star India and Myntra. After Ishan Chatterjee quit last year, she entered a new position.

Soni joined YouTube from Zalora, where she served as group CEO in Singapore for six years. During her tenure, she played a role in introducing new categories and business models, fostering innovation, and enhancing the user experience through personalized and successful loyalty programs.

Soni serves as EVP at Star India and Myntra’s CMOs and also has important Indian media and marketing experience. Prior to this, she was a partner of McKinsey in consumer and marketing practices. She serves on the board of directors of CBRE Group, a Fortune 500 company.

“YouTube’s journey in India continues to be vibrant and dynamic, representing a country filled with immense creative energy and potential…..Gunjan’s deep understanding of the creator economy and India’s video commerce landscape, combined with her leadership, will enable us to accelerate creator growth, unlock new opportunities, engage users, and contribute meaningfully to India’s digital journey,” Gautam Anand, Vice President, YouTube APAC said.

Sony said the way YouTube gives creators and connects communities in India is “really inspiring”. “I am both modest and excited to join this dynamic team and lead a platform that has long supported talent, an economy for Indian creators,” she said.
