YouTube pays Rs 210,000 crore to Indian content creators in 3 years and will invest Rs 8,500 crore in the country: CEO Neal Mohan

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said Thursday that video streaming platforms have plans to exceed India has 850 crore rupees to support creators, artists and media companies in the country and accelerate its growth.

YouTube has paid for it in the last three years alone Mohan said creators, artists and media companies across India are 21,000 crore, according to the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai.

“In the next two years, YouTube will invest Rs 850 crore to accelerate growth of Indian creators, artists and media companies. These are not only numbers, but tangible effects, forging countless career and business avenues for the vibrant new India,” he said at a conference on “Powering the Economy of Indian Creators.”

He also said content produced in India last year added 45 billion hours of viewing time from viewers outside the country.

YouTube paid for India 210 million in three years.

India is a “creator country”, he said, and more than 100 million channels in the country uploaded content to YouTube last year, with more than 15,000 channels having more than 1 million subscribers.

“This is compared to the 11,000 channels a few months ago. YouTube allows these creators and more creators to not only share their passion with the world, but also build a loyal fanaticism and successful business.”

“In the past three years alone, our payments have exceeded creators, artists and media companies across India are $2.1 trillion,” he added.

Mohan said Indian creators embody what’s special about India – the ability to share history, culture and passion with audiences from all corners of the world.

Neal Mohan said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership has made India a beacon for creators around the world, as seen by his own extraordinary digital existence.

YouTube CEO noted that “there are more than 25 million subscribers on YouTube and the Prime Minister has the largest YouTube for any government head in the world”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled today at the World Visual and Entertainment Summit in India 2025 at Jio World Centre in Mumbai.

The Prime Ministers stressed the growth potential of content-creating economy, saying that the time for India to create is ripe and creates for the world.
