Sri Lankan Navy arrests 11 TN fishermen and takes them to Kangesanthurai Naval Camp for investigation | Indian News

Chennai: Officials said Thursday that the Sri Lankan Navy arrested 11 Tamil Nadu fishermen and took them to Kangesanthurai Naval Camp for investigation. According to Ramswaram Fishermen Association, 11 Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested during a boat fishing in the Bay of Bengal, Tamil Nadu.
Earlier on March 20, 13 Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for suspected fishing outside the approved border that was handed over by the Indian Embassy in Colombo.
The fishermen were arrested on February 26 and produced at Mallakam Court in Sri Lanka and were imprisoned for nearly a month. In addition, three fishermen were taken to a government hospital in Sri Lanka due to injuries. According to reports, the Sri Lankan court released 13 fishermen on March 12 after talks between the two sides.
Tickets for flights from Colombo (the capital of Sri Lanka) to Chennai were arranged as fishermen and sent to India after they were sent to them for temporary passports. Department officials in the Karakar area welcomed them and took them to the Karakar area for a separate vehicle.
Earlier, on March 18, a group of three fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing near Delft Island in the Palkbay Sea area. The arrested persons were identified as Shanka (53), Ajunan (35) and S Murugesan (49).
The Sri Lankan Navy reportedly told them that fishermen who had crossed the sea border and he obtained a fishing permit on March 17. The captured ship Ind-TN-10-MM-496 belongs to Thangachimadam Kennedy. Authorities are currently investigating the three men.
On February 23, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed concern over the increase in captive Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy and urged the Centre to convene a Joint Working Group (JWG) to find a permanent solution to the problem.
