Zara Aleena is realizing her lifelong ambition to become a lawyer when she was murdered in the summer of 2022. She spent an evening with a close friend and then went home in the early hours of the morning.
Zara did not end the journey because of a man named Jordan McSweeney (who had tried and failed to attack other women in East London that night), the 35-year-old. He sexually assaulted her and stamped her body, prosecutors described the “unthinkable power”. McSweeney did not appear in court to sentence him, and he was appointed for life. Last summer, an investigation found a series of failures at multiple agencies led to Zara’s murder.
Probation services failed to classify him as a high-risk offender.
Metropolitan police failed to arrest him before the attack, and he was supposed to be recalled to prison.
Today, Zara’s aunt, Farah Naz, met with the prison minister Lord Timpson, and Sir Mark Rowley, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Department.
