Zelensky, Macron holds phone call before Trump-Pudin conversation World News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he called through French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of a conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We coordinated our position before the dialogue between President Trump and Putin and the upcoming meeting in Europe,” Zelensky said in his evening speech.
Xinhua News Agency reported that Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Macron and France for their support for Ukraine.
Macron wrote on social media platform X separately that during their talks, Zelensky reiterated his commitment to accepting the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.
“It’s up to Russia to prove that it does want peace,” Macron said.
He added that France and its partners must work to develop “specific plans” that provide reliable security assurances for Ukraine and ensure lasting peace in Europe.
Earlier in the day, US media reported that Trump said he planned to talk with Putin on Tuesday about ending the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Russia confirmed on Monday that a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will be held on Tuesday.
“Yes, it’s true. This kind of conversation is being prepared for Tuesday,” state-run news agency Tass quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump said he was planning a dialogue with the Russian president on Tuesday. He stressed the special focus on territorial and infrastructure issues within the framework of ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Trump said he would talk to Putin about the war in Ukraine, adding that there was already discussion about “distribution of certain assets.”
The U.S. president further expressed his hope that Moscow would agree to the ceasefire proposal.
“We want to see if we can end this war. Maybe we can, maybe we can’t, but I think it’s very likely that we’ll talk to President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work has been done over the weekend.”
