1,000 beds announced “massive casualties” after Myanmar earthquake | World News

Myanmar Earthquake: A huge 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar on Friday, causing widespread damage and loss of life. News Agency AFP reported that a 1,000-bed hospital in the capital has been designated as a “massive casualties zone.” The total number of casualties at the hospital has not been confirmed, but at least 20 people died nationwide, including 10 deaths at the Mandalay Mosque, which collapsed during prayer.
The hospital, the largest in the city, witnessed the chaos as the medical team worked to manage the influx of injured patients. The visual effect on the scene showed the injured person receiving treatment on the street with intravenous drops on Gurneys. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. We tried to deal with it, but I was exhausted,” a doctor at the hospital told AFP.
The earthquake in Sagawu, about 260 kilometers from Naypyidaw, hit a major destruction in several areas.
Today, a series of powerful earthquakes hit Myanmar and Thailand, causing significant damage to life and property. Just 12 minutes later, the first earthquake had a dimension of 7.7 on the Richter scale, followed by a magnitude 6.4 tremor. Nearly an hour later, a magnitude 4.4 aftershock was recorded.
Strong tremors were also felt in Thailand, northeastern India and parts of China. In response to the disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern about the destruction. Rescue and relief operations are currently underway.
