India is waiting for Trump’s tariffs to be clear. Officials say New Delhi will react after we issue an announcement

New Delhi: Even if there is still a lot of uncertainty on this issue, officials say India will respond appropriately to the U.S. reciprocity tariffs appropriately. U.S. President Donald Trump said on April 2 there will be no exceptions to his mutual tariff announcement.

“We don’t know what will happen. It’s a bit uncertainty. Whether it’s announcing or imposing tariffs on us, we will see what happened and react fully.”

Another official said Indian industry was concerned about the U.S. plan and hoped to conclude a bilateral trade agreement as soon as possible.

“The industry is paranoid. A lot of jobs are threatened. Ask to do so as soon as possible (BTA) or they will suffer from reciprocity tariffs in the United States.” The officials said the tariffs are threatened in this case and the industry wants protection from impact and has written it to the government.

The government told parliament that India’s simple average industrial tariffs were reduced to 10.66% after the February budget.
New Delhi has lowered import tariffs on many products, even when official negotiations on the proposed BTA began on Wednesday, it was mainly from the United States.
“BTA is an area where both sides can balance trade aspirations, but the issue has not been frozen yet,” the official added.
The second official said the BTA talks were going well.

Certain industries such as synthetic textiles and automotive components see it as an opportunity to diversify their supply chains.
