Why did RFK JR make these remarks?
Kennedy’s remarks are in response to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which found that the autism rate has risen to 1 in 31 among 8-year-olds, a trend that people have been observing since the agency began tracking autism data in 2000.

RFK Jr. posted a new survey with reporters on Wednesday after a new survey on the surveillance network for the Disease Control and Prevention of Autism and Developmental Disorders. Kennedy accused the increased environmental risk factors of the disease and rejected genetic studies of autism. “Genes don’t cause epidemics,” he said, adding, “You need an environmental toxin.”
He also criticized the media and the public for downplaying the seriousness of the problem and described it as a “myth of popular denial.” Kennedy assured that if elected, the Department of Health and Human Services will explore potential contributors, including mold, food additives and parental obesity. CDC experts have proposed the idea that despite the increase in data, the situation is becoming more and more widespread, but rather a diagnosis that induces diagnosis in cases. “Autism destroys the family”
“Autism destroys families and, more importantly, it destroys our greatest resource, our children. These children should not suffer like this.”
“These children, many of them are fully functional and are exposed to certain environments that can lead to autism at the age of two.
“These kids will never pay taxes, they will never get a job, they will never play baseball, they will never write poetry, they will never date- many of them will never use helpless toilets. We have to realize that we do this to the kids.”
Kennedy’s statements are not only strange, but are widely considered very insensitive, triggering a huge rebound online. Representative Frost wrote in response to the comments from the little RFK, “This is disrespectful, and the lie is a candid lie that further stigmatizes autism. It’s not a virus or disease, it’s a neurological condition with a wide range. Many Americans with autism, taxation and healthy living.”

Holly Robinson Peete, who became a supporter of autism after her son was diagnosed, wrote on X: “My 27-year-old son has autism not ‘destroy our family’ – he gave us purpose and solidarity … Oh, he paid taxes.”
The quote was broadcast live on TV and was lashed out on social media platforms, many calling it “cruel”, “dehuman” and completely lost contact. This particular clip has been shared by many on social media and is receiving millions of views. One user wrote on X: “Autism pays taxes. Autism works. Autism falls in love. Little rfk Jr. just doesn’t see them as humans. That’s the problem.”
Another said: “As an autistic person, I find these statements disgusting, but I don’t tax anyone who is autistic advice!” A third said: “Autism is not a tragedy that needs to be eliminated. My daughter and Asder’s daughter play violin, go to college, work and pay taxes, drive, and is one of the most caring people you’ve ever met. She’s my sunshine and I won’t change her things.”
