Carallit allegedly among Pahalgam victims

An elderly man from Kochi is suspected to be one of those killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, south of South Kashmir on Tuesday.

However, the report has not been officially confirmed. According to preliminary reports received from informal channels, local police chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya said the deceased was identified as Ramachandran, 65, of Palarivattom.

“He reportedly went with his family on Monday. No other family members were reportedly injured. We are verifying more details. However, we have not received any official information from the Ministry of Defense.”

The deceased and his family lived on Mangattu Road, Dhevankulangara, Kochi Company. The deceased reportedly travelled to Kashmir on Monday with his wife Sheela Ramachandran, their daughter Aarathy and their seven-year-old twins.

Meena Menon, the sister of Ms. Ramachandran, who lives in Thripunithura, received a news channel about the terrorist attacks when she received a panic call from Ms. Aarathy, who said through sobs that her father was the one who shot. Ms. Aarthy’s husband was in Dubai while her brother was in Bangalore.

“She said her father was shot in front of her eyes and she and her twin children fled for their lives. She said the mother was not with them when the attack occurred because she stayed to avoid a steep climb to where the attack occurred. My sister has not informed the tragedy yet.

Dhevankulangara Division MP Shantha Vijayan said she happened to know that Mr Ramachandran and his family had visited Kashmir by chance when they attended the Executive Committee meeting of Edappally Central NSS Karayogam on Monday. “Mr. Ramakandland’s brother, Mr. Rajagpal, was a member of the committee and attended the meeting before leaving the United States via a late-night flight on Monday. At the meeting, he told us in a joke that while he was going to the United States, his brother and family left Kashmir.”

Thrikkakara Mla Uma Thomas begs Mr Ramachandran’s death. “Working to communicate with the family still in Pahalgam. I express my heartfelt condolences to all those who have died in this brutal attack and sad family,” she said.
