Pahalgam attack: Pakistani Prime Minister holds key meeting after India suspends India’s water treaty to reduce diplomatic relations

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a National Security Council meeting on Thursday in response to India’s statement following the Kashmir attacks.

The move comes after India suspended the Indian Water Treaty on Wednesday and announced that it would downgrade diplomatic ties with Pakistan, including expelling its military attachment, given its cross-border ties to the Pahalgam terrorist attacks. The Cabinet Security Committee (CCS) met tonight under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and determined its response to the terrorist attack.

Foreign Minister Vikram Misri said in a media briefing that the CCS decided to hold the Indus Waters Treaty immediately until Pakistan is reliable and irrevocably covers its support for cross-border terrorism.
He said Attari’s comprehensive check post will be closed immediately.

He said those who crossed with effective endorsement may return via the route by May 1.
