Sanjay Khanna extra charge as BPCL CMD

New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) announced on Thursday that Sanjay Khanna has served as chairman and managing director (CMD).

Khanna’s appointment comes after the end of his term of former CMD G. Krishnakumar on April 30.

Khanna currently serves as the Director (Refinery) of the state-run oil marketing and refining company, and has previously led the Kochi and Mumbai refineries in BPCL.

“He anchored several well-known projects to build new craft units in Mumbai, Kochi and digital,” the company said in a statement.

The change in leadership is a critical moment for BPCL, which plans to select chemical complexes in Andhra Pradesh, with projected capital expenditures of approximately ₹95,000 million. Once commissioned, the facility is expected to push the company’s overall capacity to approximately 50 million tons per year.

BPCL is India’s third largest refinery and has been in Bina in Madhya Pradesh and Kochi in Kerala. India’s current refining capacity is 250 million tons per year, of which BPCL accounts for 35 million tons.

Khanna is a graduate of chemical engineering from the National Institute of Technology of Tiruchirappalli of the University of Mumbai and a graduate student in financial management from the University of Mumbai, with thirty years of experience in refinery operations and technical services.

He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Bharat Petroresources Ltd and Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemical Co., Ltd. and chairs the Petroleum Refinery Technical Committee under the Ministry of Oil and Gas (MOPNG).

BPCL Reports Consolidated Net Profits by 8% ₹For the quarter ended March 2025, it was 439.2 billion ₹47.8957 million a year ago. Operating revenue fell 4% year-on-year ₹1.27 trillion ₹1.32 trillion yuan in the same quarter of fiscal year 24.
