Moushumi and her husband Jayant Mukherjee have two daughters Payal and Megha Chatterjee. However, her eldest daughter Payal has type 1 diabetes and has been in a coma since 2018 before she died in December 2019. When Payal died, Moushumi and Jayant were left in the morgue after they learned that their bodies were kept in the morgue because of unpaid bills. Payal married to a wealthy family, but she didn't treat her well. The actress also has no good relationship with her ex-girl son.

In a recent interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, Moushmi revealed the dark phase of Payal's demise and said her daughter was not properly medically available. Chatterjee claims she is not allowed to visit her daughter while she is sick. Chatterjee recalls the worst of times, when she struggled for the body of Payal’s body, Chatterjee said: “I don’t think my husband was completely stuck with Payal’s death. I don’t have control over it either. This vacuum will be in our lives.” In another interview, Moushumi recalled the “worst experience” and said: “When she was no longer, I went to the hospital. She was placed in the morgue because the bills for the hospital were not paid. On the job side, the Bengal film Aarii will see Moushmi.
