Wrong MCQ option, problem with few dishes: Ghaziabad Govt school exam makes students panic

Despite the changes at the 2024-25 session, students taking the final exams in public primary schools are confused and frustrated.

In a noteworthy example, the 2nd Hindi essay contains questions based on chapters in old textbooks.

A teacher at Modinagar explained the confusion: “Usually, the title is written on the answer file along with the subject. Now, students are taught from the ‘Sarangi’ textbook, but the answer file mentioned is “Kishalay, ‘Kishalay,’ old book. These issues are the same as last year. ”
This problem is not isolated. Similar mistakes from the previous year also confuses teachers and students during this year’s exams. A principal at a primary school in Ghaziabad pointed to recurring problems in grade 5 social science papers.

“These papers are exactly the same – questions, marks, and even errors. Last year, a multi-choice question asked: ‘What were the first domestic animals for humans?’ the principal shared, with options like cattle, goats, horses and elephants.

The teacher observed that some question documents had only minor changes in wording, but a large number of syllabuses were outdated. One teacher pointed out that nearly 60% of the syllabus this year, especially stories and poetry. For example, the Hindi paper in Category 2 raises the question in a chapter called Tappa ka darr, which is part of the old textbook Kishalay, not the new, Sarangi. It’s not new, it’s nothing new, he mentioned that this pattern has been reappearing over the past three years.

“Until last year, the syllabus remained the same, so these questions weren’t as prominent. But with the updated syllabus this year, the repetition of the papers has caused confusion.”

The students also expressed frustration. A Level 5 student explained that the syllabus they were taught did not match the test paper. “When the teacher checked the paper, they told us it was the same as last year. I tried to answer some questions and the teacher helped me,” the student said.

In Noida, although teachers pointed out that the problem papers are not like newspapers from previous years, they do report some inappropriate content. One teacher mentioned: “In a Level 5 Mathematics paper, there is a problem in the Level 8 syllabus. However, this is not a major problem.”

Education ministry officials have acknowledged the issue and ensured that an investigation is underway. Jitendra Malik, head of the Ghaziabad Regional Institute for Education and Training (DIET), confirmed that the problem papers for primary school classes were prepared by teachers in the diet.

“These issues are prepared by diet teachers in various regions. Investigations will be made soon to investigate the matter,” he said.

Op Yadav, a representative of the regional basic education department, also addressed the situation and noted that discussions were held with diet officials.

“The dietary officials have raised the matter and will decide further action as soon as possible,” Yadav said.
