However, Topria later continued to withdraw from the lightweight championship. This reportedly happened when UFC CEO Dana White said he was unable to get the 145-pound weight limit.
Topuria apparently revealed to White that he “consolidated his legacy” under this department and will continue to do the lightweight section. This allowed Volkanovsky to have his 10th straight title battle.
Volkanovski was defeated by Islam Makhachev in October 2023 before his match against Topria.
Lopes, on the other hand, suffered losses against Movsar Evloev during UFC 288 in May 2023 and has since won five straight games, including against famous figures such as Pat Sabatini and Brian Ortega.
He won Volkanovsky’s title after defeating Ortega at UFC 306 last September.
