Man accused of rape of minors found dead in prison

Mumbai: The alleged rape allegedly charged was charged with suicide in Taloja Central Prison on Sunday. Vishal Gawli, the key to the brutal rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Kalyan, was found hanging in a prison toilet around 3:30 a.m., according to police.
Thana police arrested Gawli, 35, his second wife, Sakshi, in December 2024 after allegedly raping and murdering Kalyan’s girl. Sakshi allegedly helped him with the body, and the body was found a day later. The CID query will be conducted in Vishal Gawli’s suicide.
A senior police officer said Gauli committed suicide due to depression because he felt lonely and even his wife, Sakshi, did not speak to him. Sakshi is currently living in Byculla prison for women.
“Sakshi did not join her husband VISHAL during the video conference (VC), which was held for prisoners every week. In addition, Sakshi also provided police with evidence against her husband. This was not well with Vishal.” This could disappoint Vishal triggered suicide.
Senior police officer said Gawli left a ticket for suicide, and he mentioned that “no one is responsible for his suicide”. When contacted, Prison Principal Pramod Wagh said Vishal committed suicide with the help of gamchha (towel) and placed a hardcore in the toilet between 3.30am and 3.45am.
According to police, Golly had dinner on Saturday night and headed to the toilet at around 3:30 a.m. Another inmate found his body in prison guards around 4.00 a.m. The prisoner immediately informed the on-duty police officers in the barracks. His body was taken to JJ Hospital for autopsy.
