AIADMK, BJP and all coalition parties will compete for the National Democratic League in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu, the coalition interior minister Amit Shah said on Friday. Major political developments are ahead of the TN parliamentary elections held in 2026.
“The leaders of AIADMK and BJP have decided that AIADMK, BJP and all coalition parties will use NDA for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections,” Shah said.
Shah is holding a press conference with BJP’s K Annamalai and announced it at Edappadi Palaniswami of AIADMK in Chennai. Shah added: “These elections will compete under the leadership of PM Modi at the national level, under the leadership of the AIADMK leaders
In the last Lok Sabha election, the BJP is eager to improve its prospects in Tamil Nadu, where it failed to win a seat in the southern state. The coalition minister said that the BJP will not interfere in the internal affairs of AIADMK, adding that the coalition will be beneficial to the NDA and AICADMK.
“There is no conditions or requirements for AIADMK. We will not interfere with the internal matters of AIADMK. The alliance will be beneficial to both NDA and AIADMK,” Shaa said.
Shah also expressed confidence in winning the upcoming parliamentary poll, saying the NDA would once again ensure Tamil Nadu’s government swept the majority. “I am confident that in the upcoming elections, the NDA will once again ensure that the NDA government is formed in Tamil Nadu again.”
In the first two elections – Lok Sabha and the last parliamentary poll – AIADMK has been working hard to do a great job. AIADMK formed an alliance with the BJP after passing J Jayalalithaa in 2016. In the 2021 state election, AIADMK and BJP allied with the BJP, which led to the BJP winning four seats. However, AIADMK disconnected from BJP in 2023.
