BJP is set to AAP boycott mayor polls and regain control of MCD

BJP’s senior leader, Raja Iqbal Singh, is a former mayor and currently the opposition leader of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD), who was nominated for the mayor position.
He represents Mukherjee Nagar, District 13.
Mandeep Singh of Congress was nominated for mayor. He represents Nangloi, Ward No. 47.
The AAM AADMI Party (AAP) has ruled the MCD for more than two years after the end of the BJP’s 15-year holdings of the civic institution in BJP and therefore chose not to participate in the mayoral competition.
The election for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor will be held at the MCD conference on April 25. In the 2022 MCD poll, AAP occupied 134 out of 250 wards, while the BJP won 104 titles. However, later, several AAP MPs rebeled the BJP. A press conference of former Chief Minister and opposition in Delhi said in Delhi Parliament Atishi: “The AAM AADMI Party (AAP) will also play a strong opposition role in the MCD. The BJP has done a lot of measures in the MCD elections, but it is still regrettable during this period, but after that, it still has not stopped.
She said her party did not believe in “politics that undermine the trade with horses” and decided not to participate in the mayoral competition.
“Now, the BJP should form a triple engine government and fulfill its promise to the people of Delhi,” Attichi said.
The BJP’s senior leader said that the party currently has the strength of 117 MPs. He said in addition, the party’s 11 nominees MLA and seven Lok Sabha MPs are also eligible to vote in the mayor’s poll.
“The decision to quit the election is a strategy for AAP to check the massive outflow of its members,” he claimed.
After the announcement, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the political foundation of the AAP has eroded in the city and people have completely lost confidence in it. She claimed that the AAP MLA and the MPs were not satisfied with the leadership that adopted an “anti-person” policy while in power.
“The political foundation of AAP has changed in Delhi and people have lost confidence in the party. They have realized that the situation in Delhi has changed.”
Delhi Congress President Yadav responded to the AAP decision to avoid the MCD mayoral election, “It is regrettable that Delhi has given them a chance to change, but now they seem to be withdrawing from the 2025 MCD MCD mayoral election.
“This is a party that was trusted for 11 years in Delhi government, but they failed to deliver it. It just shows that the AAP has nothing to do with the people of Delhi – they just want power.”
The mayor’s poll is scheduled to be held on April 25.
