Australia closes all bottle stores for the first time on ANZAC Day – What you need to know

Bottle stores in NSW will be closed completely on ANZAC Day due to new transaction hours regulations.
The latest laws will prevent bottle shops from opening on April 25 and will resume trading the next morning.
The changes, launched in July last year, will also affect other retailers that were previously allowed to open from 1 p.m., including department stores and supermarkets.
The NSW government hopes it will inspire more people to use the day to reflect and respect those who make the ultimate sacrifice.
Changes were made after a public consultation by the state government from September to October 10, 2023.
The government said the move received strong support from veterans, veterans organizations and the public.
Mick Bainbridge, president of RSL in New South Wales, welcomed the decision: “Every Australian has the opportunity to pause, reflect and respect those who serve and continue to serve”.
He added: “We must do our best to safeguard the Anzac spirit and ensure that the unique sacrifices of the soldiers and women in the past and present, and their contribution to the Australian way of life will never be forgotten.”
Store closures intend to encourage more people in NSW to commemorate ANZAC DAY
Prime Minister Chris Minns made a reasonable debate on the decision, saying “nothing is more solemn or important than Anzac Day.”
“It can cause hours of inconvenience, but the price of closing our largest company stores in a day is small, and it’s a small price to pay for free and open democracy,” he said.
Exemptions for other venues including markets, small retailers, bars, cafes, chemists, news and takeaway restaurants.
Dan Murphy and Dan Murphy and BWS stores with ALH in New South Wales will also be tax-free, which will comply with the hotel’s license.
NSW is not alone in implementing the All-Anzac Day closure, and supermarkets in Queensland will also be closed all day, except for Woolworths at Brisbane Airport, which will open at 1pm.
Most Dan Murphy and other states BWS stores will be traded from 1pm ANZAC Day from 1pm ANZAC Day, except for the stores associated with ALH hotels, which will be consistent with the hotel’s license.
Shoppers are advised to check local transactions a few hours in advance to avoid being caught.
In a statement to Australia Daily Post, Endeavor Group, which owns BWS and Dan Murphy’s, said: “This year, most NSW Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores will not be open on ANZAC DAY and will be open on ANZAC DAY and will be open with the new Retail Transaction Trade Amendment (ANZAC Day) (ANZAC Day Trading Hours (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) (ANZAC DAY) DAY)).

Only selected Dan Murphy and BWS stores, which are related to ALH hotels in Jeonju can be opened… Customers can check which stores will be open online by visiting bws.com.au and danmurphys.com.au.They added.
There have been calls for further extension of the ANZAC Day closure, while independent NSW MPs urged poker machines to be included in restrictions.
The proposal aims to preserve the traditional ANZAC day game twice, and specifically prohibits Pokies.
However, Prime Minister Chris Minns rejected the idea and pointed out that individuals should be free to make their own choices.
This week, North Bondi RSL became the headlines for cancellations twice at its venue, opting instead to create a more family-friendly atmosphere.
