In a Facebook post, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said India conducted its first nuclear test under the visionary and decisive leadership of Indira Gandhi, the first nuclear test conducted in Pokhran, Rajasthan, 51 years ago, smiling Buddha statue.

“I sincerely thank you for the outstanding scientists and researchers who have made the dedication possible.”

“Their legacy continues, inspiring generations to pursue technological advancement and strengthening India’s strategic capabilities,” Gandhi said.

In an article on X Congress said May 18, 1974, was a proud day for India, as the country successfully conducted its first nuclear test through the Smile Buddha under Indira Gandhi.

“This test has become a symbol of the country’s scientific competence and strong political leadership,” the party said.
