Federal government of independent state foreign ministers meets to discuss Eurasian security

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Federation of Independent States (CIS) was convened in Alatu on April 11 to discuss the international agenda within the organization and the current national and future cooperation. Ministers reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation and enhancing the multifaceted potential of CIS.

Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu said the Commonwealth continues to be a valuable platform for steadily strengthening of open dialogue, coordinated actions and comprehensive ties between member states.

“Kazakhstan is interested in the development of our organization and is determined to enhance its multifaceted potential,” he said.
Special focus is on the institutional development of the Commonwealth, strengthening coordination and the initiatives proposed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Nurtleu highlighted the support of partners, pointing to the academic capital of major projects such as Volunteer Forum, Commonwealth Fair and CIS.

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of World War II, participants in the conference agreed to award the name of glory to the labor city. 1941-1945 to Astana, Alama, Karagandi and other cities.


Participants discussed various global and regional affairs and interactions within the CIS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov listed Russia’s assessment of current and future international developments, including in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, and Russia’s efforts to establish an equal and indivisible security architecture for the Eurasian continent. The Minister summarized the results of the joint efforts of the unified diplomatic sector in 2024 and in the diplomatic plan in 2024, and further strategies and further efforts were made on an international scale. Ministers paid special attention to the preparations for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the great patriotic war and held relevant anniversary events in the CIS countries. The meeting led to the approval of a set of decisions aimed at strengthening the integration of cultural and humanitarian affairs, law enforcement, defense and security. The CIS hosting agency’s position in the field of education was assigned to the Army General Sergey Shtemenko Krasnodar Advanced Military School and the Institute of Social and Industrial Catering Services (Moscow).

The next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers will be held in Duchampa in October before the CIS summit.
