Delhi man commits fraud case in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Hyderabad cybercrime police have been arrested for alleged involvement in labor fraud, Manish, 30, an unemployed and Delhi native. He was involved in two cases – one in Telangana and the other in Karnataka.

A 27-year-old woman from Hyderabad approached a cybercrime detective and noted that she had applied for a job through the job portal. She said the fraudster contacted her and informed them that they were hiring staff.

They asked her to choose a company and pay a registration fee of Rs 3,000. For background verification, they requested an additional Rs 10,999 that she did not pay. However, the fraudster assured her that she would find a job and that the money would be returned within 24 hours of employment.

On December 26, 2024, they told her that she was selected for the job. They then asked her to pay Rs 42,670 for medical insurance and Rs 35,000 for security procedures. After payment, they claimed that the payment gateway was stuck and repeatedly delayed the workflow.

She later realized that it was a cyber fraud, through which her total amount was Rs 1.49 crore. According to her complaint, a case was registered under section 66C, sections 66D and sections 111(2)(b), 318(4) and 319(2) of the IT Act and investigated.

Police say the fraudsters are connecting with victims through work portals, social media platforms – Telegram apps, WhatsApp phone calls and messages, and through ads in social media apps.

They falsely claim to represent several well-known companies, providing job opportunities in addition to ensuring job guarantees and promising to return the money after placement. After receiving payment, they eventually stopped responding to the victim.
