The heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused damage in Vijayavada on Sunday morning.

Residents experienced a brief relief when the weather was pleasant in the hot summer. However, the climate quickly changed drastically, and the cool breeze-like wind turned into strong winds, uprooting the big trees and violently accumulating wild insects.

The sudden change in the weather has left nearly 13,000 students planning to take the NEET undergraduate exam at various centers across the city.

NTR regional collector G. Lakshmisha responded quickly to ensure that the candidates are not facing any traffic problems arriving at the test center.

Mr. Lakshmisha, along with staff from the NDRF and municipal companies, conducted ground inspections at places such as Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road, Nirmala Consent Junction and Hanumanpet.

He gathered information about where trees fell and where they were hoarded and made sure that water was drained from low-lying areas where they might be logged. Every route to the Examination Center was quickly cleared to facilitate free transport.

Later, when speaking to the media, collectors said that the average rainfall recorded in the area was 14.87 mm in half an hour in the morning. He said the government was asked to remain highly alert given the forecasts of the Indian meteorological department for the day and the thunderstorm and strong storms on Monday, April 5.

He advised people to be cautious and take appropriate safety measures, warning that trees may fall due to strong winds.

Mr Lakshmisha said people should not park their vehicles under trees but use safe parking spaces. He said they should avoid being outdoors unless absolutely necessary in heavy rain.

Control room

He informed that a control room was set up in the collection room in case of any emergency, and he said people could call it “9154970454” for help. “Unpredictable weather conditions are expected to continue over the next two days,” he added.

He advised seniors and children to be particularly cautious and ensured that the regional government will immediately respond to any issues facing the public. He added that staff will be available in the control room around the clock.
