Sagarika Ghatge made her performance debut when she famously portrayed Preeti Sabharwal in the 2007 sports drama Chak de! India is headlined by Shah Rukh Khan and becomes a modern cult classic. Sagarika is not aware of this by many people from the royal family. She is a descendant of Shahu Maharaj, the first Maharaja of Prince Kolhapur, whose father Vijaysinh Ghatge belongs to the royal family of Kagal, a small town in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Her grandmother Sita Raj Ghatge is the daughter of Tukojirao Holkar III, the 13th Holkar Maharaja in Prince Indore State.
After Chak de! India, Sagarika has starred in several other Hindi films such as Fox, Rush, Miley Naa Miley Hum and Irada, but none of them left any marks at the box office. She also made a Punjabi film Dildariyaan and a Marathi film Premachi Goshta.
