Türkiye warns India-Pakistan conflict risk

Istanbul: Turkey warned on Wednesday that there is a risk of a “full war” between India and Pakistan following the worst violence between nuclear-weapon neighbours in two decades.

“Last night, the attacks carried out by India last night took the risk of a full-scale war,” the Foreign Ministry issued a statement after India's deadly missile strike. “We condemn this provocative initiative and attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.”

Ankara both sides called for “showing good meaning” and taking necessary measures to ease tensions, including in the fight against terrorism”.

It also supports Pakistan's request for an April 22 attack on tourists in Indian Kashmir, India, where 26 people were killed, mainly Hindu men.

India blames the attack on the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, a non-designated terrorist group in Pakistan.

Both are Türkiye and Pakistan, both Muslim countries, and have long had economic and military ties.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Islamabad in February, and the two countries signed a series of new agreements, especially those on defense.
