First is Kane Williamson, now Alex Carey, international stars are throwing away PSL

Another international player, Alex Carey, has withdrawn from the Pakistan Premier League (PSL) after New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and South African all-around Corbin Bosch. Carey was signed by Islamabad United, who issued a statement confirming his exit.

Australian ticket inspector Alex Carey, signed by Islamabad United a few weeks ago, officially withdrew the 10th edition of the Pakistan Premier League (PSL). Carey was selected as the replacement for Proteas star Rassie van der Dussen. Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will also miss a few games in the PSL before Carey. Karachi Kings chose Kane after it was not sold in a major Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Islamabad United announced Carey’s withdrawal from PSL with a “domestic commitment”. However, there is no official domestic schedule that clashes with the PSL, which leaves fans wondering why Carey quits the game.

Why did Alex Carey opt out of PSL?

Carey asks more questions than answers from the exit from PSL. Both Australia’s one-day match and Big Bash League (BBL) have ended, confusing Pakistani cricket fans as Carey exits. Carey is not the first international player to opt out of PSL. Earlier, South African all-around player Corbin Bosch also pulled his name from PSL’s Peshawar Zalmi and chose to join the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. After that, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also imposed a one-year ban on Corbin, alleging breach of contract.

However, after Carey’s evacuation, Rassie Van de Dussen is expected to return to the side led by Shadab Khan, as stated by the fleet’s management.
