Governments must act on fake YouTube channels: Bandi

Karimnagar: Union Secretary of State Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that abuse of YouTube channels to slander individuals and conduct personal attacks and extortion in the name of news. He said the trend of content creators operating without any news background is undermining the credibility of real media professionals.

Sanjay urged the government to quickly deal with such elements while talking to the Mediapersons of Vemulawada and announced a letter to the Chief Minister. While unethical YouTube content must be restricted, Sanjay stressed that channels to raise public issues and serve social interests should be encouraged.

Sanjay expressed concern over the worsening working conditions of journalists across the state, noting that many are fighting a meager salary. He said it is the government’s responsibility to protect and strengthen the media community.

The BJP leader reiterated his commitment to journalist welfare, pledging that if his party comes to power in the state it will build homes for journalists, issue health cards and provide insurance coverage. He promised: “The BJP will ensure that journalists live with dignity.”

Sanjay attributes the media to his political rise outside of Karimnagar, criticizing the Congressional government for not fulfilling its promise even after 17 months in power, claiming that the needs of both the public and journalists have been ignored.

He also visited the new press club building in Vemulawada, which is partly funded by Rs 1 million from Mplad funds. He assured it to an additional Rs 1 million and reiterated his commitment to the development of the Vemulawada Temple and Karimnagar constituencies. He cited the CSR initiative and approved sanctions from institutions such as Navigation and Senik School, as part of his efforts.
