Robert de Niro will gain reputation at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in 2025

According to the Hollywood Reporter, actor and film producer Robert De Niro will receive the Palm of Honor at the opening ceremony of the 78th De Cannes Film Festival. De Niro will receive honors on May 13, after the Academy Award winner served as president of the Cannes jury in 2011 for 14 years.

De Niro has a long history in Cannes. In 1976, he participated in the official choice of the festival: Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1900 and Martin Scorsese’s taxi driver, winning the Palme d’Or. In 1983, he started the festival with Scorsese’s King of Comedy, followed by a time in the United States by Sergio Leone.

He returned in 1986 with Roland Joffe’s The Mission, who became De Niro’s second handheld champion. Most recently, in 2023, he returned to Croisette to join Scorsese’s Flower Moon Killer.
