Tax Minister promises full support for victims of Wayanad landslide

Tax Minister K. Rajan promised the state government to support the victims of Wayanad Landsplise, especially when addressing the outstanding bank loans.
Rajan assured in a statement that the government has taken steps to cancel all debts of affected individuals in various departments of the Kerala Bank. The Chief Minister also asked the State-level bankers committee to take a similar stance. The committee plans to meet again to discuss the issue.
But even if the meeting did not have any good decisions, the minister assured that the government would ensure that disaster victims do not bear the burden of loans when rebuilding their lives.
He explained that the Disaster Management Act of 2005 provides an opportunity to cancel debts of all individuals in the affected area when the National Disaster Management Agency classifies disasters as severe. He said that while the center has not taken action in this regard, the state government has taken measures to help affected families.
The government has compiled detailed records and identified 1,275 loan accounts, distributed among 759 households in affected areas. In addition to the debtor list, the state compiles a list of those who have lost their jobs or been affected by disasters. Mr Rajan said the government has been committed to providing full rent for displaced persons until they approved the relocation of them to new homes through the Chief Minister’s help fund.
He reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring that all victims have permanent residence at the end of the fiscal year. The governor of Kerala’s parliament made the announcement in this regard.
