New Delhi: U.S. Vice President JD Vance began his four-day visit to India on Monday, focusing on the results of a trade agreement, bilateral relations and the joint statement of India issued in February.
Vance was accompanied by his India-the original wife Usha Chilukuri and his three children, in more than a decade, the first visit of the U.S. vice president to India, and finally the visit of former U.S. President Joe Biden in 2013.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to hold negotiations and dinner on Monday night at his official residence, Lok Kalyan Marg. The conference is expected to cover a long-discussed bilateral trade agreement in India and explore ways to deepen strategic and economic ties between the two democracies.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar are expected to participate in the discussion. The U.S. Vice-Chairman will accompany a five-member U.S. delegation, including representatives from the Pentagon and State Department.
“This visit will provide both sides with an opportunity to review progress in bilateral relations and implement the results of the India-U.S. Joint Statement issued during the US Prime Minister’s visit to the United States on February 13. Both sides will exchange views on regional and global developments of mutually beneficial interests.”
After his event in New Delhi, Vance will fly to Jaipur on April 21, and he will stay on April 24. On April 22, the U.S. Vice President will visit the iconic Amir Palace in the morning, where the traditional Rajasthan province welcomes him and his family.
Guests are expected to enjoy Jodbrey’s “wildlife” on a two and a half hour tour, as well as folk shows, puppet shows, traditional costumes and regional cuisine. During the visit, the palace will remain closed to the public and designate 12 well-trained guides to assist and maintain the agreement.
Later that day, Vance will give a keynote speech at the US-India Business Summit at the International Centre of Rajasthan. The summit will see the participation of top Indian and American officials, and Vance is expected to articulate his vision for enhancing bilateral trade and investment.
On April 23, the US Vice President will visit the Taj Mahal in Agra. After spending nearly three hours on the monument, he will return to Jaipur on the same afternoon and visit the Jaipur city palace. He plans to meet with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Governor Haribhau Bagade on April 22.
Vice President Vance will leave Washington on April 24 and concluded that the visit is expected to strengthen the growing partnership between the United States and India on the regional and global fronts.
