Karaikal Federation calls for regularization of contract PRTC workers

The Karakar Federation Federation Federation requested immediate drivers and commanders on the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC), many of whom have served for more than a decade.
Federal Secretary-General M. Sheik Alavudeen criticized the government for its long-term inaction. He said that despite multiple protests – including an indefinite hunger strike last year, workers’ demands have not been resolved. During the protests in 2023, the then-PRTC general manager (administrative management) assured the union representatives that measures would be taken toward regularization. Workers suspended strikes under such as this assurance, but no specific action has been taken.
The federal condemns the recruitment of new temporary employees, while claims from long-term contract employees continue to be ignored. It claims PRTC failed to comply with the Ministry of Labor guidelines, including providing minimum wages.
Mr. Alavudeen urged the Chief Minister of Puducherry to intervene in the matter, safeguard the livelihoods of workers and ensure protection of their rights through regularization.
