A man was captured by photography, drank what appeared to be alcohol and ate a boiled egg on the Delhi metro train, which sparked widespread anger and condemnation on social media.
A video surfaced from the interior of the Delhi Metro, showing a man allegedly drinking and eating eggs, prompting a public review of the rules and regulations of the Delhi Metro Corporation (DMRC).
The video has now been widely shared on social media, showing a man sitting in a standard subway coach wearing a brown T-shirt and beige pants, where he could initially peel a cooked egg from his schoolbag and use the subway’s metal handrail to peel it off, a practice that has attracted criticism from some internet users due to hygiene issues. Then, the man was seen consuming something that seemed to be alcohol.
Is it intentionally to record the video for a social media post or a video captured by another passenger.
The short video was posted on the man’s Instagram account, “Food Republic of India”. It quickly spread to X, and many users believe the man consumes alcohol publicly on public transportation.
Social Media Response
The video spread quickly and produced a wide range of reactions. Some users expressed disapproval of the man’s behavior, while others commented on the courage and absurdity of the situation.
In the comments section, one user wrote “It’s disgusting”, while another user said “Now this is the next level of meal fee.”
“DMRC should give him a lifetime ban,” ThrID user wrote.
DMRC’s response to this incident
On the second day on the video, a drink that allegedly showed a man peeling and eating eggs and drinking from a glass inside a train was widely circulated on social media, the DMRC urged commuters on Monday to avoid inappropriate behavior when accepting the subway.
Anuj Dayal, CEO of Delhi Metro Corporation (DMRC), told PTI that the video appears to have been intentionally recorded by participants.
“The DMRC expects all commuters to act responsibly when using the subway and follow basic social etiquette,” Dayal said.
He added that eating and drinking in the train is prohibited and commuters are attracted to exercise restraint.
“We call on all passengers to maintain etiquette in the metro, which is a large-scale public transportation system,” he said.
He also asked commuters to quickly report any violations to the recently available Delhi Metro or Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel to quickly take necessary litigation.
